well hopefully. Some of you met my long time friend Steve Miller (not THAT steve miller) at healdsburg. He was helping me out at my table. Anyway he is playing for a Pop star dude named Ryan Cabrera and was on Regis and Kelly, MTV already this year. Well he has had a guitar on order, and I finally finished it off today and sent it off to california. He is going to be playing with Ryan on the Tonight Show (Jay Leno) on Monday night and hopefully if the post office comes through he'll be playing the guitar I built him!! I'm pretty stoked. Later this year he will be on Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, and maybe others like SNL, and more. Here are some pics of the guitar. IT is a totally hollow (excpt for the part right around the bridge) tele style guitar (My Model H) with a spruce top, and ash body, maple neck with dark toner, and a rosewood fretboard. The finish is what fender used for a few guitars back in the early-mid 60's. Has VanZandt pickups and a bigbsy. Watch Jay Leno monday night and hopefully he'll be playing it!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() More pics here: http://mayesguitars.com/images/stevemiller |

Hopefully you will see it, I have been disappointed twice by the Leno show. The lead guitarist from Jimmy Buffett's band has 3 of mine and another on order was suppose to play mine on the show. He said up till the last day they were doing an acoustic type of song but Jimmy changed it at the last hour to something faster. Bummer. Good luck John Gary |

Beautiful Tele. I love that neck! What do you do to keep the body joints from telescoping through the paint job? (I'm assuming the Ash is not one solid piece....) Steve |
Beautiful Tele. I love that neck! What do you do to keep the body joints from telescoping through the paint job? (I'm assuming the Ash is not one solid piece....) Steve
It is a 2 peice body, and Frankly I don't know! I don't do the finish on my guitars anymore. But I know my finish guy epoxy's before finishing so I'm sure that helps... |

...I'm sure it does too. Didn't Fender use some special sealer--was the name Fullerplast by any chance?--that they layed down under their color coats? I bet several here know the answer to that! Anyway, it seems they did something to prevent the joint lines from making themselves known. Steve |

yes Fender did indeed use fullerplast. Fullerplast ( invented by a guy named fuller O'Brien) is a catalyzed sealer that makes it to where the basecoats as well as clear coats did not soak into the grain, and also the joint lines. They started using this in 1962-1963 ish But also fender did lots of weird things with paint. They would paint entire guitars a sunburst, and if it did not turn out right they would just spray a solid color over the top of it, so you'll see guitars where the finish will wear and you'll see a sunburst undercoat. Fender was really inconsistent. |

Well, John, I really don't think there's any way you could even approach being as famous as me. (Gagging on his moring breadfast). After all, I've got two women that absolutely worship the ground I walk on (they aren't teenagers yet so they don't know any better). I hope Steve can get the guitar. I look forward to seeing it on Jay. Nice work! |
